It is a happy day to the Nomads family as is has proceeded to Standard Bank knockout cup Semi finals following a narrower win over Red Lions on Saturday.
The Zomba based Soldiers outplayed their counter parts in the preamble minutes of the game as they kept knocking on Wanderers’ goal. Red Lions continued with one-two passes towards the Nomads goal but Innocent Bokosi and Clever Kaipa failed to go past the Wanderers defence.
In a situation which seemed as a nightmare to the Soldiers party, Lions’ defence was caught napping in line of duty which resulted into Luke Bruno Milanzie to put the Lali Lubani outfits ahead of the Soldiers with a powerful short which Jacob Ngwira failed to stop.
Wanderers responded positively to the goal and started dominating the game.
Though they lost track of the game, Lions’ Gibson Nkhonjera at the back made sure not to concede a second goal as he did not allow Wanderers’ trio of Luke Milanzie, Muhammad Sulumba and Ibrahim Sadik to dribble past him.
Upon seeing that his striking force is weak, Red Lions’ Coach Collings Nkuna made an early substitution, taking out Clever Kaipa for Moses Namkumba at 42 minutes to add pressure at the Nomads defence which seemed to be disciplined today.
In the second half, Red Lions came with new plans and won a lot of ball passes and free kicks. They did all they could but Wanderers’ goalie Richard Chipuwa was awake and performed various brilliant saves to deny the soldiers a goal.
In the dying minutes of the game, Red Lions lost a mega chance as Bokosi’s header hit a post.
In another game, Blue Eagles has defeated Silver Strikers in a third quarter final encounter with a single goal to nil to book a place in the semi final stage.
Mighty Wanderers will play Blue Eagles in the first semi final while Civo service united awaits a winner between Big Bullets and Moyale Barracks tomorrow.
