As the act of abduction of people born with Albinism and exhumation of their bones is on the rise in the country, a Blantyre based Afro-acoustic guitarist and musician, James Kuchilala has taken it into music to condemn this barbaric act in his newly released video.
In the maturely shot and produced video, Kuchilala sings about people born with albinism whose extinction in the country is hanging by a thread due to people with bad mind preying on them for their bones.
He says that it is not good for people born with albinism to be preyed on just because of their skin color. “No one is less human because they are born with a disability. We are all equal in the eyes of God and we all have the responsibility of making this world a better place for everyone to live in. People with albinism are people, just like any other people”, said Kuchilala who is a graduate of Music from Chancellor College.
In an Interview with Nthanda Times, Kuchilala said that it is a sin and legally unacceptable to kill but it is inhuman to kill somebody for who they are. Kuchilala said it is very sad to see people being hunted for just because of their skin color and urged Malawian Government to act on the murders to scare away other would-be culprits. “Government should be stiffer on dealing with the convicts because eventually, they have made this minority group to live in absolute fear. The maximum sentence for a murderer should be given to such criminals. They don’t have anywhere else to go, this is their home. Government has to make sure these people are extra-protected by severely punishing the culprits”.
On whether government is on the right track to deal with the culprits, Kuchilala said he is not satisfied with how Malawi Government is handling culprits found guilty of abducting people with albinism because he sees too much talking and little actions in what government is implementing. He also said that herbalists should also join hands with Malawi government so that this barbaric act should be stopped immediately, “I think the Association of herbalists also has a role to play. It should come out in the open to distance themselves from such cases because these culprits take the body parts to them. I think they should be honest enough to sensitize people on the truth”, said Kuchilala.
